Therapeutic Meaning of Unconscious Fantasy

Abstract

|
In the present study, the author discusses the importance of unconscious fantasies in the process of psychoanalytic treatment. The relationship between external stimulation and unconscious fantasies in neurotic disorders are also described along with the role of unconscious fantasies. Unconscious fantasies in the mind of the therapist as well as in the mind of the patient is also addressed, and the possible danger of ignoring an unconscious fantasy on the part of the therapist in treatment is presented. Some clinical vignettes of unconscious fantasies in the course of psychoanalytic treatment are given.
